Thomas Lair, PT

Thomas Lair was born on the coast of Brittany France. He obtained his physical therapy degrees at ADERF (Paris Physical therapy school in 2006. He worked in various rehabilitation centers and private outpatient offices until 2012 when he married his wife Stephanie and moved to the US. He was certified to work as a physical therapist in the U.S by the FCCPT (Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy) in 2014.

His interests are in sports medicine and general orthopedic rehabilitation. Thomas is certified to practice dry needling  (using a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments). He studied the trigger point model, dry needling technique and safety requirement with myopain seminar.

He is also currently getting his Mckenzie technique certification through the McKenzie Institute for mechanical diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders ( enjoys all sea related activities, playing soccer, doing yardwork and taking care of his dog Paco.

Scott Thomas, PT, BSc, Cert. MDT, CGS​

Scott is a co-owner/founder of Brunswick Physical Therapy Associates. He graduated from Bradford School of Physical Therapy in 1991. Scott has worked in all areas of rehabilitation over the past fifteen years with personal interest in outpatient orthopaedics. Scott is certified in the mechanical diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders through the McKenzie Institute. Scott is also a certified ergonomic specialist through the Atlanta Back Institute. He is also a certified golf fitness specialist specializing in the prevention and treatment of golf related injuries.

​Scott has 44 years clinical and management experience within physical therapy practice including clinical sites in hospitals, private clinics, home health, schools, psychiatric hospitals and spanning the age range from birth until death. His patients appreciate their active participation in any therapy physical program Scott directs. Scott Stephens was Founding President, Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapists, Director, American Physical Therapy Association, Chair, Virginia Physical Therapy Board, President, Virginia Physical Therapy Association, Chair, Practice Committee of Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, recipient of numerous service and clinical awards from peers and Council of State Legislators; Advisory Council, Medical College of Virginia School of Physical Therapy. Chair, Insurance Committee for American Physical Therapy Association requiring review of most malpractice and negligence cases throughout United States. Currently licensed in Virginia and North Carolina. Scott takes pride in the professional growth of his coworkers and clinical accomplishments of his patients.

John Elson is a physical therapist who joined Brunswick Physical Therapy in February 2017. He received his bachelor of science degree from East Carolina University and his DPT in Physical Therapy from Winston Salem State University. Clinically, he has great interest in the treatment of pediatric and outpatient orthopedic patient populations. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and Buddy Ball volunteer. John is living in Leland, North Carolina.​

Alisha Witmore, PTA

Alisha is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant and has been practicing for  5 years, first gaining experience traveling in Maine and Texas before joining Brunswick Physical Therapy Associates (BPTA) in 2009. She is an active American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) member and as well as a Pediatrics Section member. She is is an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor and enjoys  participating in the clinical education process.  She works in and is skilled in all areas and age ranges encountered at  BPTA  and continues to provide coverage as needed in all the clinics. Her primary area of treatment at this time is in pediatrics. She loves the challenge of the pediatrics population and helping children of all levels reach their fullest potential.

Amy Jackson, PTA

Amy is a licensed physical therapist assistant working in our Sunset Beach clinic.  She is a South Carolina native and graduated from Greenville Technical College with an Associates' of Health Science degree in 1997.  She has been practicing physical therapy since her graduation and has been with  BPTA since April of 2008.  Over the course of her career she has worked in many areas of rehabilitation. Her areas of skill include outpatient-orthopedic, inpatient acute care, manual therapy techniques, aquatics, and skilled nursing rehabilitation. While practicing Amy continues to stay committed to learning and has taken countless continuing education seminars in areas such as total joint replacements, back rehabilitation, shoulder therapy, balance and coordination rehabilitation techniques.  She is a caring clinician and loves her career. Nick is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who joined Brunswick Physical Therapy Associates in April of 2017.  He recieved his degree from Duke University in 2005 and has been licensed for 12 years.  He is thrilled to join our outpatient practice after serving the local community for the past 10 years as a home health physical therapist.  He is originally from northeast Pennsylvania where he did his undergraduate work at East Stroudsburg University and received a BS in biology.  From there, he moved south to attend Duke University.  While in graduate school, he met his wife Stephanie and they moved to Southport in 2007.  They are the proud parents of triplets, Opal Grey, Oliver and Jakob.  Nick is very involved in his children's extracurricular activities, specifically swimming, for which he is an assistant coach for the Southport-Oak Island Marlins.  Professionally, Nick strives to provide patient focused, hands on care that incorporates muscle balance and performance, skeletal alignment and pain management to treat dysfunctions of all types.  He works in the Southport Clinic at St. James Square and also provides aquatic physical therapy at Brunswick Community College.

Kathleen Franzen, PT, DPT

Kathleen Franzen earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science and Psychology in 2009 from Russell Sage College in upstate New York.  She went on to earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2013.  Katie always knew that she wanted to work in the medical field.  She searched for a field where she would have the opportunity to work closely with people.  Physical therapy allowed her to combine her love of science and fitness.  Combining the two she found a field which enabled her to help people get the most enjoyment out of life possible.  After working some time in New York she and a friend took the adventure and relocated to the sunnier shores of North Carolina.  After a search of therapy providers from Wilmington, NC southward she brought her talents to our Sunset Beach office.  Along with her she brought a skill set and a personality that are filling the office with new energy and new techniques.  While in New York she gained experience in various physical therapy settings including general outpatient orthopedics, geriatrics and pediatrics. Katie enjoys many facets of the field but particularly enjoys rehabilitation with post-operative patients, working with balance and coordination impairments with neurologic diagnoses, as well as helping patients with chronic pain find relief.

Mary Francis Stoker, PT, DPT, MHS

Mary Francis has been a practicing PT for over 19 years, first receiving her Bachelor's of Science in Sports Medicine from Mount Union College in Alliance, OH in 1990 and then her Bachelor's of Science in Physical Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC in 1993, and her Master's of Health Sciences also from MUSC in 2002. She worked for 10 years in Charleston gaining a wealth of experience in various areas and settings including acute care, home health, SNF, inpatient and outpatient rehab. This involved working with all age groups from newborn to very old and several specialty areas including aquatics and wound care as well as administrative and management experience.

She moved to NC in 2003 and worked for a year at Brunswick Community Hospital before becoming co-owner/founder of Brunswick Physical Therapy Associates (BPTA) in August 2004. She continued to further her education earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill in August 2006. In addition to her formal education, she regularly attends continuing education courses in many areas, always striving to expand her knowledge base and skills in order to continue to provide the highest quality care. In addition to management and coverage of the clinics at BPTA , her main area of treatment is pediatrics at this time.

Mary Francis has been an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) since 1991 and holds Section memberships in Geriatrics, Orthopedics and Pedicatrics.She is an active member and has held various offices in the Sandhills District of the North Carolina Physical Therapy Association. She is the Center Coordinator of Clinical Education at BPTA and is an APTA Basic and Advanced Credentialed Clinical Instructor. She is also a past Board member of the Carolina Clinical Education Consortium and past Advisory Council member for Trident Technical College PTA program. She is dedicated to the importance of clinical education and each therapist's responsibility in furthering the profession by participating in the education of students.
