Thomas Lair, PT: Shallotte Office

Thomas Lair was born on the coast of Brittany France. He obtained his physical therapy degrees at ADERF (Paris Physical therapy school https://www.aderf.com/) in 2006. He worked in various rehabilitation centers and private outpatient offices until 2012 when he married his wife Stephanie and moved to the US. He was certified to work as a physical therapist in the U.S by the FCCPT (Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy) in 2014.

His interests are in sports medicine and general orthopedic rehabilitation. Thomas is certified to practice dry needling  (using a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments). He studied the trigger point model, dry needling technique and safety requirement with myopain seminar.

Thomas enjoys all sea-related activities, playing soccer, doing yard work and taking care of his dog Paco. 

​​​Amy Weisse PT, DPT: Southport Office

Originally hailing from East Long Meadow, Massachusetts, Amy started her undergraduate schooling at UMass-Amherst, before switching to the warmer climate and the beach life at UNC Wilmington in 2013

Amy Weisse earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in biology in 2015 from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from East Carolina University in 2019. 

During her time at East Carolina University, Amy gained clinical experience in various physical therapy settings which allowed her to work with a variety of patients with orthopedic and neurologic impairments. She also participated in research in the biomechanics laboratory where she compared lower extremity joint and bone forces during high-intensity interval and steady-state running protocols with hopes to gain better knowledge on minimizing injury risk in athletes and in the general public. Once graduated from physical therapy school, Amy was very excited to move back to Wilmington and begin her career at Brunswick Physical Therapy in the Southport location

Jen Jones- Southport Office Manager

​Originally from Ellicott City, MD; Jen and her husband, Matt, traded their snow shovel for a sand shovel in June of 2016 when Jen started working for Brunswick PT 

With over 7 years of experience in a physical therapy office, Jen's favorite aspect of PT is pediatrics. She loves working with children and watching with excitement as they learn and improve.  

Jen works in the Southport office of St. James Square as their office manager/practice admin focusing on networking, marketing, medical records, and insurance verification as well as handling clerical duties for Thomas Speech Therapy.

When not in the office, Jen loves spending time at Holden Beach or being around family. Anyone who spends enough time with Jen will hear stories of her nieces and nephew; her large selection of aquariums-  or her favorite topic to discuss with ex Marylander's- Ledo Pizza.





 

Alexa Karakos: Office Manager: Supply Office
Alexa joined the BPTA family in January 2019.  After a career in Early Childhood Education as a teacher and administrator, Alexa changed hats to work as the Office Manager in Supply.
Together with her husband, Alexa moved to Leland in December 2018 from the Pocono Mts in PA.
Alexa and Arthur became grandparents on Thanksgiving 2017 when Eleni Alyssa Karakos entered the world in Seattle, WA.  Face Time is now her favorite past time, and all vacations are spent in Seattle!




Amy is a licensed physical therapist assistant working in our Sunset Beach clinic.  She is a South Carolina native and graduated from Greenville Technical College with an Associates' of Health Science degree in 1997.  

She has been practicing physical therapy since her graduation and has been with  BPTA since April of 2008.  Over the course of her career, she has worked in many areas of rehabilitation. Her areas of skill include outpatient-orthopedic, inpatient acute care, manual therapy techniques, aquatics, and skilled nursing rehabilitation. 

While practicing, Amy continues to stay committed to learning and has taken countless continuing education seminars in areas such as total joint replacements, back rehabilitation, shoulder therapy, balance, and coordination rehabilitation techniques.  She is a caring clinician and loves her career. Her goal every day is for all the patients that come into the clinic to have the best physical therapy experience possible. Please stop by our Sunset Beach clinic and meet her!

Tammy Nelson: Sunset Beach Office Manager- Practice Administrator 

  Tammy is originally from Pennsylvania.  She lived in Pinehurst NC before moving to Brunswick County four years ago.  
Tammy is the Office Manager for the Sunset Beach office in addition to sharing job duties of Practice Administrator for Brunswick Physical Therapy Associates.  She has over 30 years of experience working with insurance in the medical field. She takes pride in her job and enjoys seeing the progress each patient makes with their Physical Therapy.  

In her spare time, Tammy enjoys spending time with family and friends, boating, kayaking and jogging on the beach.

Billie Jo is a graduate of Salem College '15 with a BS in Exercise Science. After graduation, she taught therapeutic horseback riding classes to individuals with disabilities and has worked as a PT tech and front office manager. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with family, riding horses and playing with her 2 dogs and cat

Adja Catalano PT, DPT: Shallotte Office

Adja holds her DPT and first began her experience at Brunswick Physical Therapy Associates while a student with a clinical placement in the Shallotte office studying Pediatric Physical Therapy with Dr. Mary Frances Stoker.  

Adja began her employment with BPTA in March 2018.  She is certified in the practice of the LSVT BIG program which is an exercise routine designed for patients with Parkinson's Disease diagnosis.  

Adja also specializes in manual therapy as she has been a licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist since 2004. She treats all physical deficits regarding Orthopedic, Pediatric, Geriatric, Neurologic, and post-operative conditions in both the Shallotte location and at the pool for aquatic therapy. 



Nikolos W Boehmer, PT DPT: Southport Office
Nick holds his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and joined our Southport office, located in the St. James Square office park in April of 2017. Our clinic is approximately one-half mile from the main gate entrance to St. James.

He received his degree from Duke University and has been licensed since 2005.  Nick has been with our practice since 2017 after serving the local community for 10 years as a home health physical therapist.

He is originally from northeast Pennsylvania where he did his undergraduate work at East Stroudsburg University and received a BS in biology.  From there, he moved south to attend Duke University.  While in graduate school, he met his wife Stephanie and they moved to Southport in 2007.  They are the proud parents of triplets (Two Identical Twin Boys and a Girl) Oliver, Jakob, and Opal Grey. 

Nick is very involved in his children's extracurricular activities, specifically swimming, for which he is a coach for the Southport-Oak Island Marlins, and the Brunswick Aquatic Club Gators  Professionally, Nick strives to provide patient-focused, hands-on care that incorporates 
muscle balance and performance, skeletal alignment and pain management to treat dysfunctions of all types
